PINSAN mourns passing of staunch safe abortion rights advocate

We, at the Philippine Safe Abortion Advocacy Network (PINSAN), mourn the passing of Mercedes Lactao Fabros, the Campaign and Advocacy Coordinator of Womanhealth Philippines. Womanhealth is a member of PINSAN.

Merce was a strong leader in sexual and reproductive health and rights advocacy in the Philippines. She was a passionate human rights advocate on LAMAZE method of childbirth and safe abortion rights. Up to her last days, she pushed for the decriminalization of abortion in the Philippines as a Steering Committee member of PINSAN. According to her daughter, May-i Fabros, Merce lived by “Katawan Ko, Pasya Ko” (My Body, My Decision) up to the very end.

She and Womanhealth worked tirelessly to advance women’s and girls’ bodily autonomy and self-determination. Our hearts are with Nanay Merce’s family, as well as her friends and colleagues at Womanhealth and PINSAN. She will be deeply missed. We, your colleagues at PINSAN, will continue the fight to decriminalize abortion!
