Telling Truer Stories IV – 2021

Telling Truer Stories IV

In commemoration of the International Safe Abortion Day this September 28, 2021, WGNRR, together with PINSAN and Filipino Freethinkers, will hold discussions and art workshops to showcase the intersection of abortion rights issue with women’s rights and other social rights and justice issues.

Telling Truer Stories is an initiative that collects feminist narratives in various art forms (visual art, poetry, essays, music, film), all to shift from the usual conservative caricatures and stereotypes to the underrepresented diverse realities that women (and their loved ones) live every day. Since its inception in 2018 through the Philippine Safe Abortion Advocacy Network (PINSAN), Telling Truer Stories took the initiative to seek perceptions on abortion by showcasing stories in different art forms, thus an anthology for safe and legal abortion was born.

My clothing does not measure my dignity as a woman.

Vivien

Because I fought for my autonomy and my rights as a woman.
I can’t believe that choosing my rights is treated as sin.

And I am finally free
I will see you soon

Fecund

I could survive. I could weather. I am fecund with wild grass, turmeric fatten under my soil because the rain visits every now and then. I am the pomelo tree that bears thorns instead of fruits.
